The mechanics of a Machine Translation (MT) software work in such a way that sentences are translated word for word, at times constructing misleading sentences. In stark contrast, Translation Memory (TM) software ensures that repetitions are only translated once throughout the document. It is used by our translators and is the choice of software for most translators in the profession.
Accuracy is of utmost importance, especially in legal translation projects. An excerpt from a legal clause such as “the aformentioned covenants and agrees that during the term of this Agreement", which could be repeated throughout the document will be translated by the TM software. It will then scan the entire document for exact replicates of the excerpt and suggest the change. This translation mechanism will help to ensure the integrity of the entire document.
